Dhamaura Higher Secondary School, also known as Janata Rastriya Secondary School, is one of the largest government schools in Mahottari district, serving nearly 2,000 students each year.

Established in 1970, the school has been a cornerstone of education in the local community, offering a diverse range of programs including Science, Management, Education, and even diploma courses in Civil Engineering. Despite having limited resources and facing various other challenges, Dhamaura School has consistently delivered outstanding academic results, standing out as one of the best-performing schools in the district.

The school’s success story proves that, even in difficult circumstances, great achievements are possible. A prime example of this is Dr. Om Murti Anil, a renowned heart specialist in Nepal, who is an alumnus of school. His rise from a student in this school to a recognized healthcare professional highlight the potential embedded within the institution and its ability to nurture talent despite its limitations.

When I became principal of Dhamaura School in 1992, the school needed improvement. But with support from the local community, particularly Tej Narayan Singh, the visionary founder and long-time head of the school’s management committee, progress began to take shape. Due to Mr. Singh’s vision to provide access to education for underserved communities and poor families, he was committed to ensuring that education was available to all. His leadership was instrumental in not only enhancing the school’s infrastructure but also expanding the teaching staff, ultimately raising the standard of education and laying a strong foundation for the school’s continued success.

During my 25 years as principal, I worked closely with the community to ensure that Dhamaura School continued to provide quality education. Despite the challenges, a small but dedicated group of teachers, managing over 2,000 students with remarkable efficiency, laid the groundwork for the school’s success. Today, under the leadership of Abhay Kumar Singh, the school’s management committee is carrying forward Dhamaura Higher Secondary School’s mission, driving it toward further growth and excellence.

In a district where literacy rates remain lower than the national average, Dhamaura Higher Secondary School stands as a pillar of opportunity and advancement. However, challenges remain. There is an urgent need for improvements in infrastructure, the introduction of modern teaching tools, and the development of extracurricular facilities to keep up with the changing educational environment. Continued support from the local government and community is crucial to ensure that Dhamaura’s legacy continues to succeed.

Looking back on my time as principal, I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to have played a part in the school’s development and progress.Dhamaura Higher Secondary School demonstrates that even with limited resources, determination, strong leadership, and community collaboration can lead to success.

This story goes beyond a school—it’s a testament to how education transforms lives and communities. The success of Dhamaura Higher Secondary School symbolizes resilience, inspiring its students, staff, and community while motivating others nationwide, proving that determination and teamwork can drive meaningful change.
